An Apology

Had I but known how you would feel
when I set down my thoughts on you,
never would I have penned those words
that caused your fragile heart to reel.
Oh how I rue that foolish urge
to those fantastic dreams pursue,
not marshalled as a shepherd girds
his flock to stem their fitful surge.
When told of your dismay
I could not face the day
when we would meet again
and both would bear the pain.
But now, at least, we’re friends once more
so please forgive me, I implore.
